img_3387_1.jpgFor seven months, I lived with the Acholi tribe of northern Uganda. This area has been traumatized by a 22-year-long civil war which uses child soldiers and sex slaves to sustain it.

A former child soldier I worked with, Okot, described the therapy we did together as bringing light into a darkened hut.

Candlelithuts.com is my gesture of hope. It is the beginning of what I hope will be my continued therapeutic work in developing countries. I see therapy as offering hope for healing and a future for children who have broken free of their abductors, broken free of their torturers, but whose hearts are still bound–they are still living in dark huts.

The warmth of huts, lit by candle, filled with storytelling and laughter beckons….
